This week Girl Boss led a presentation on how to create and format a resume. While we discussed basic layouts, outlines of which will be available for all Girl Boss members in our resources section, we also discussed the importance of tailoring your resume.
While you can have the same layout, you should always reform your resume to best fit the position you are applying to. For example, if you are applying for a Marketing internship you should showcase your qualifications specifically for marketing. Also, as you gain experience, your resume is naturally going to change.
While as a Freshman in college you may more so mention college clubs and coursework, as you gain experience you will want to show it. You can explain experiences on your resume in many different categories, for example relevant and additional, professional and leadership/consulting.
If you are fluent in a second language, definitely mention that under languages and skills! Also be sure to include an Interests section, this can help show your interviewer your personality and help them get to know you. However, be sure all your "fun facts" are appropriate for the position you are applying to.
If you have any questions on formatting your resume feel free to go to Career Services or to reach out to the Girl Boss Board, we would love to help you and give you advice!
