Linkedln Workshop

At this weeks Girl Boss meeting, we discussed the importance of Linkedln and gave advice on how to improve your profile! Linkedln in incredibly important for networking and helps you establish an online presence with companies and connect with alumni. There are multiple steps to perfecting your Linkedln profile, which should be thought of as your digital resume.


 

STEPS TO BUILDING A LINKEDLN PROFILE

  1. Headline

  2. Profile Picture

  3. Education

  4. Summary

  5. URL

  6. Keywords

  7. Update regularly

  8. Share your work/projects/accomplishments

  9. Join groups and connect

  10. Recommendations

 

HEADLINE

  • Short, memorable slogan

  • Avoid Cliches

  • Specific details of what you do (this should be updated often)

  • Informative and concise

 

PROFILE PICTURE

  • Appropriate attire

  • High quality

  • Recent, make sure it's updated

  • Well fitted

LINKEDLN ACCOUNTS WITH PROFILE PICTURES RECEIVE 14 TIMES MORE VIEWS!


 

URL

  • Claim a unique, but still professional, URL

  • This will help your profile appear when people search for your name

 

SUMMARY

  • Adds a 'personal story' element

  • Include experiences, qualifications, and goals

  • Compelling narrative about you, MAKES YOU STAND OUT!

  • Describe motivators, skills, accomplishments, and what makes you unique

  • Should be short and concise

  • Include white space (blank space in between paragraphs)

  • Should be similar to a cover letter

  • Be sure to proofread!

  • Include keywords

 

ADDITIONAL SECTIONS

  • Education

  • Work experience

  • Community service

  • Accomplishments (ex: projects, awards, languages, certifications)

 

RECOMMENDATIONS

  • You should have at least one recommendation for each position you have held

  • Recruiters will be impressed by recommendations by people who have managed you (ex: your boss)

 

UPDATE REGULARLY

  • Regularly posting updates about yourself keeps you on people's radar and helps you to build your professional reputation

  • Mention your new projects, professional books or articles of interest, or events you have attended.

  • Recruiters read your feed, so show them all of your experience!
